This is me. Meaghan J Smith. Nice to meet you. Thanks for taking the time to check out my website and find out a little bit more about me.
So why do I have this podcast about money? I hear you ask.
I am a primary school teacher by trade and this has a huge influence on my passion for teaching and learning in what I like to call the ‘school of life’.
I have been interested in money and how to use it wisely since my early twenties and have always believed it is a fantastic tool to use to create more money and solve problems. I dabbled in learning various aspects of investing but didn’t take it really seriously until I had kids. There’s nothing like a baby in your arms to get you motivated to seriously sort your life out. Am I right parents?
Learning about money and talking about it in general conversation doesn’t seem to be very popular or hip and in some circles I would go as far as to say it is frowned upon.
Why? It affects our everyday life, and yet so many people act as if it is such a bad thing or not important. I love money and believe it is such an awesome tool to use to create what you want in life. That’s why I actively educate myself about it. A couple of years ago I met an awesome women at an education event and we hit it off instantly. She was wearing a Sharon Jones t-shirt so I knew she was my kind of gal. We both had an interest in property investing and would chat once a week about all things property. We shared practical information with each other, examples of what we were doing and supported each other in the process of buying our respective next properties. It was so refreshing to be able to chat freely and support each other with this taboo subject- MONEY. On one call I jokingly suggested how cool it would be to do a podcast about what we talked about- to share practical information about money and how to manage it, tips, advice and real life experience.
After that I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I thought why not? How great would it be to create a platform to learn about money, discuss it, and support women with information and education and interview expert guests to provide that information. So often I speak with friends or colleagues and realise they simply don’t have financial literacy. They weren’t taught it specifically and miss out on so many opportunities because of it.
Of course all the self-doubt came up. Why would anyone listen to me? I’m not a financial advisor. The point is you shouldn't have to be a financial advisor to understand money. I created Money Mindful to get money out in the open. It's about being open and honest about money. Talking, sharing and supporting one another to smash it financially. I want my daughters to grow up understanding money and empowered with the knowledge to create it, have it and manage it.
So here we are folks. I am a mum. I love craft. My idea of a perfect day is getting up early before my kids to practise yoga. Taking my whippet out for a long walk with the family. Hanging out with my girls doing some form of fibre art- knitting, weaving, basket making, and ending the day with my awesome partner and friends enjoying a home cooked meal. Oh and I guess I should add to that list I’m now a podcaster.
I welcome you to join the discussion about money. How can I support you? What do you want to learn more about? Email me at email@example.com I would love to hear from you.
